A return for royalty

HRH The Princess Royal had ridden at the racecourse as a jockey. It was fitting that she should return to open the 120-room Hampton by Hilton which adjoins the racecourse in its idyllic parkland setting and enjoys spectacular grandstand views of the races. It’s the first hotel in the racecourse’s 90-year history complementing the existing facilities, and provides a boost for the local economy. The modular-constructed building presents a contemporary interpretation of traditional forms that is sympathetic to its surroundings. It’s a project close to Ica’s heart:

Hampton by Hilton Hamilton is a special project for us since it is my hometown and also where Ica started back in the early days. Hamilton Park is such an important venue for the town and this new relationship with Hilton will only enhance the growing leisure market in the area. This hotel project demonstrates that despite the requirements of a strong international hotel brand and the use of innovative modular construction, the design is contextual and reflects the local character of Hamilton Park.

Weaving an equestrian influence
There's a distinctly equestrian influence on the interiors. Further inspiration from the textile industries that Hamilton was historically renowned for. The design of the hotel makes optimal use of its trackside position, with the bar and restaurant areas distributed along the length of the ground floor, opening up panoramic views of the racecourse. This interior-exterior connection is further enhanced at the entrance, where a show-stopper wall features a giant cross-stitch horse in multicolour weave.

Pursuing the horse-riding theme

The horse-riding theme is maintained throughout the public space, with a composite digital end wall displaying bold colours and striking geometry that references patterns from jockeys’ silks. By featuring their names, the bespoke carpet pays homage to people and horses that have played an important part in the history of the racecourse as well as highlighting significant dates.

I would recommend Ica’s services to anyone who is contemplating building a new modern hotel. Having used Ica over the years to build and renovate hotels, I have recently been involved in the construction and completion of the new 120-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel at Hamilton Park Racecourse to my complete satisfaction. The team at Ica are very professional — they designed and delivered the product on time and budget.
