Horwood House

The ambition was to create a destination hotel and wedding venue with a signature restaurant and bar that would attract hotel guests, visitors and local residents alike.

We were approached by ZIZ Properties to transform the public areas and bedrooms of this beautiful grade-II listed manor house hotel built in 1911 by architects, Blow and Billerey, and birthplace of the famous gardener, Percy Thrower.

This type of undertaking requires specialist knowledge and our experience was utilised to guide the client through every step of this process — ultimately ensuring that their vision for the hotel was realised.

The design process required a delicate balance of blending the beautiful historic interiors with the more modern extension areas. Careful intervention was required for the listed areas to meet both operational needs and comply with planning requirements. The more modern extension areas needed to continue the look and flow of the original manor, while keep the design appropriate within more contemporary setting.

The interior has a comfortable and relaxed country house feel with rustic touches such as timber beams and an earthy muted palette which draws from nature's nuances, all set within a series of stand-out individual spaces that each offer something extraordinary.
